Busy Day
"Buster" was back for some tomatoes and a short visit this AM. Enjoyed a round of golf at Beardance...front nine MUCH more than the back nine. Enjoyed watching the Broncos' victory and finished the demo for our hardwoods going in tomorrow.

Beautiful Morning
We are usually fortunate with the weather early in the morning, but there are just certain days that are better then others. Today was one of those days...so beautiful, so calm.

Backyard Visitor
We've had several of the bucks come through the yard in the fall and winter, but not too many in the summer. This one stopped over just before 5 today. He started checking out the bird feeder, but decided sunflower seeds were not his thing. He then moved on to pear tree and quickly made his way over to the dogwoods. He munched on them for a good 5-7 minutes. I was a little torn...get the photos or save the bushes...picked the photos!

Oh Deer(s)!
Well, on Friday I was a little pre-occupied with my nacho cupcakes. :) I also didn't take any of these pics with my phone, so there was a little more leg-work involved...another reason I didn't post the pics on Friday.

Anyway...we had two bucks in the back that hung around all day - from when I went to work to when I got home. In the afternoon there was even a third!

The "track" picture was actually taken on Saturday morning. I got up around 4AM and noticed a weird dark spot in the backyard. After shining the mag light on the spot, I quickly realized it was a deer sleeping in the backyard. His "pad" is next to the juniper bush. You'll also notice that there are a large number of tracks, from more than just the one buck, meandering around the yard. Fortunately no trees were "nuzzled" during the deer's adventure.

Deer
This morning as I was driving to work I spotted 4-5 bucks on the side of the hill...I'm guessing this is the crew that recently visited our backyard. Then, on the way home, there were two on the other side of the rode sparing with each other. I didn't get a photo of the sparing...just them looking at me.

Visitors...A Year Later

Unlike last year, we were unable to see these guys traveling through the yard. There were four of them that moved from the backyard to the front - two across the driveway and two up the side stairs. I'm pretty sure that these are same four bucks that came last New Year's Eve...last year they came around 9 or 10.

Oh Deer

I usually see the deer on my way to work. There were a few along the road as I was headed to the grocery store. I'm sure they are looking forward to the some green, spring grass.

While the Kids Are Away...the Deer Will Play

This is just one of the photos I captured last night at our school. We were out driving in the new car and decided to stop by the school...there were five deer wandering, eating and playing. It was fun just watching them enjoy themselves. I think this is a herd that others have been seeing around the school. I also manged to get some video - digging in the snow for food and chasing each other around.

Oh deer!

On my way to work this morning there were six deer along side the road.  Fortunately, I saw them early enough, pulled over and got my camera from my purse in the trunk.  I drove up closer to the deer and snapped this photo out the window of my car.  And yes I was pulled over...safety first!

It was fun to see watch them munching on the grass.

01.05.09

Well, it was back to school for me today. Prior to break I had cleaned up the desktops of the lab computers...it had become similar to "Where's Waldo?" for my students trying to find files. Going in today and seeing those clean desk tops really felt good. Like I was getting the new year off to a good start. The kids also appreciated it, "Finally Mrs. Jensen!"

I have to share this story because it was a missed photo opportunity. Today definitely felt like a Monday. I was running late and anxious to get to school. One of the roads I travel on has several curves. When I came around one of the corners there was a large SUV stopped right in the middle of the road. (Don't worry mother, I wasn't driving crazy.) I'm thinking, "What the heck? You people are going to cause an accident and I'm running late. Move!" There appeared to be an adult and child in the vehicle, so I couldn't get too upset...could be from my school. Slowing down I finally noticed the reason they were stopped. There was a deer standing about 2 feet off the road just looking at them, munching away on some grass. My first thought...get out of the road, I'm late! Second, thought...that would make a great picture for my blog. And my third thought...relax!! Let them enjoy this wonderful scene. Wildlife was a daily event for me growing up on a farm in Eastern Colorado. This deer could have been the first one they had ever seen...and I was trying to hurry them up. (And don't get me wrong, I love to watch the deer along this road - they are usually there several times a week.) They ended up heading down the road and I was very tempted to stop, but I could hear my mother's voice telling me it wouldn't be safe. Anyway, to wrap up the story, I realized that I need to give others the time to enjoy the things around them, appreciate their surroundings, create their own memories - even if it means being another minute or two late for me.
