Fallen Firefighers Memorial

Chad's uncle was a firefighter in North Dakota.  Stewart passed away this last winter from lung cancer.  He, along with a number of other firefighters, were honored today at the memorial, located in Colorado Springs.    It was a wonderful day with family.

the road of life

I first want to wish my sister and her husband a Happy Anniversary...four years and a beautiful, healthy little boy.

Today, while walking in the hills behind the school during my lunch, I did some thinking and reflecting, both of which were sparked by some family news I received last night.

I wonder...why does it seem to take bad news or a bad event for us to truly stop and think about the value of everyday we are given?  Our lives seem to have become so hectic and cluttered with "responsibilities," we often forget to make a conscious effort to stop and appreciate the people in our lives and the possessions we have.

Next month will mark the one year anniversary of the tragic death of a coworker.  It was a freak accident that took her life, as well as her sister-in-law's.   I remember feeling this same way when I heard she had been taken from us...wanting to make sure that I made the most of everyday I'm given, not knowing when the last one may be.  I've done that...some days...taking time to stop and reflect.  I think that's part of the reason I initially started this blog.  But just like everyone else, I have gotten caught up in everyday life...going through the usual motions.

During my walk I came to the conclusion that I absolutely need to kick it in the pants with this blog - finish the year strong...make conscious efforts to take the time daily and appreciate someone or something around me.

So...where is your road going?  What have you appreciated today?

Getting Ready for Winter?

This little chickadee, with sunflower seed in tow, appeared to be looking for a hiding place within the chair cushion.  Unfortunatley, these cushions will be going inside for fall...hope he has a back-up plan.
