It's Monday
Well, went to get in the elevator this morning and it isn't working...something about not passing inspection. I'm not worried about myself...just my computers with all those little bodies carrying them up and down stairs.
Today started a busy week of working with 3rd graders on their life cycle animation project.

Busy Day
This morning we woke up to perfect, untouched snow outside.

Today I was finished getting all of our devices ready for PARCC testing that begins Monday.

Finally, I spent an hour at the local Lost Coffee with the students from our 1st/2nd Combo class. They have been learning about various artists and recreated a famous drawing from each one. They recorded a video reflection and we used the Aurasma App to integrate the video and art work. It was a great night and fun to see how excited they were.

Final Day
Today was not only the last day of our Holiday Spirit Week, but it was also the last day before Winter Break...YEA!! Today was pajama day...appropriate for school pajama day! ;)

Had a very busy day so it went fast. Forgot to ask the last classes of the day to shut down our laptop carts, so I found myself shutting down 94 computers...not fun in many ways! Need to bathe in hand sanitizer afterwards.

Code & Cookies
Had a GREAT day working with students today for the Hour of Code. Most of my time was spent with the Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students...and the loved it!! I saw some promising computer programmers today!

This evening several of us gals from work got together for the First Annual CSE Cookie Exchange. LOTS of yummy treats! Thanks to my favorite LM for hosting!

Waste of Time...for the Most Part
I had three options for today...the Code.org training, a free conceal carry class for educators, and golf. Decided to be a good professional and attend the code training. WRONG choice...about an hour in I was wishing I would have gone for the guns! My friend and I actually left at the lunch break. The only thing good that came from the day was lunch & margs at Benny's and my first adventure to Trader Joe's!

Wrapped up the evening with a favorite.

Virtual DENSI2014
This morning I was able to join in on the Livestream from the DENSI2014 in Nashville. Missing my DEN Family!!

FedEx was supposed to deliver my first batch of Google Chromebooks yesterday, but they had some type of "miscommunication". The machines did arrive today! The next 150 should be here Friday!

Laptops
Christmas in June
I received a phone call this morning from the UPS driver letting me know he was ready to deliver our 49 laptops at the school. Literally...he was at the school...good thing I only live a few minutes away.

I got the computer boxes unloaded from the large shipping box and into the lab. Even managed to get a few imaged while I was there.

One of the two desktop pallets.
After making a couple of trips to the dumpster, I was headed back home when the FedEx guy showed up...delivering our 19 desktops. It was perfect timing!!

Now to wait for the 270 Chromebooks and find the time to get back to school to get today's delivery imaged.

Computers
This is just a fifth of the lab. Imaging is going...we'll stick with that!!

Even after this week I will still have about 150 iPads, 70 new computers and 270 Chromebooks.

CMAS
Well, we have finished our first day of the new state assessment for social studies and science. We used all but about four computers between the 4th & 5th grade. Overall, everything went great - the Internet stayed up (knock on wood) and we only had a few login errors. Hopefully day 2 will be even better!

Fire Code?

I'm thinking this would not pass an inspection!

Cords

The story of my life...and this is only a small fraction of them. While waiting for a computer to boot up in the lab today, I just noticed all of the cords. I think the neutral colors of everything except the orange hard drive caught my eye.

Word of the Year

Tonight I learned from a friend's Facebook post that "Twitter" was the 2009 Word of the Year. In it's honor I had to spend a few minutes updating my twitter background.

Grades

Looking at this picture most people would just see a messy desk. The funny thing is, it's my desk at school while doing EPRs (elementary progress reports) for the first trimester at school. Keep in mind...I'm the computer resource teacher and the computer is surrounded by paper. You will also notice some scissors and glue. That's right, scissors and glue.

I used a resource from fellow tech teachers in the district. One of the teachers was unable to find the editable version of the original document, so I had to do some cutting and pasting to include information about what the students at my school had been working on during the first trimester. I just found it ironic that the tech teacher was using scissors and glue to complete her work. :o)

Work.

Today I spent most of my time at my computer - working on some new projects for The Teacher's Corner.

We did manage to have some fun in the evening.  We had our monthly family dinner.  And as always, Renee and Dave did an AMAZIMG job!  We had a great surprise - my mom and dad were there.  I think they probably had  mixed feelings about being able to join us.  They were hoping to be in the wheat field harvesting, but due to rain they've been receiving, they haven't been able to get in the fields.  The whole family was together for a great evening.

Confused?

Chad, my husband, would say that my Mac is confused...does it want to be a Mac or a PC? We had to purchase the Vista license in order to use the yearbook software on my computer. I still haven't gotten used to hearing the Windows chimes on my Mac computer.

On a completely different note...the blue birds have arrived!!! For the first time ever the male and female showed up at the box on the same day! I typically see the males around the neighborhood for about a week before seeing any females...or either of them at the box for that matter. It was late in the evening when I first saw the male. He flew up to the box and checked it out several times. I was a little worried...I hadn't gotten the box cleaned. So, I grabbed the step stool & electric drill and headed out to the box. The pair flew off and it was too late in the evening for them to come back. I'm hopeful to see them again tomorrow...and I'm even more hopeful that the same female has come to nest - for the third year in a row.

My Google Reader.

Well, as you can see, I need to get a grip on my Google Reader. I haven't figured out a good "attack plan" for consistently checking and reading my feeds. I think at this point it's almost better to just clear them all and try again.

I am open to any helpful tips on managing my reader.

"I am the Future"

This was the phrase on the collar of a student I had in the computer lab today. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to use it in my blog. The funny thing is, the boy didn't even know that the words were on his shirt! I hope that's not a sign of our future. ;o)

Just a preview for tomorrow...I may be going diving!!

01.05.09

Well, it was back to school for me today. Prior to break I had cleaned up the desktops of the lab computers...it had become similar to "Where's Waldo?" for my students trying to find files. Going in today and seeing those clean desk tops really felt good. Like I was getting the new year off to a good start. The kids also appreciated it, "Finally Mrs. Jensen!"

I have to share this story because it was a missed photo opportunity. Today definitely felt like a Monday. I was running late and anxious to get to school. One of the roads I travel on has several curves. When I came around one of the corners there was a large SUV stopped right in the middle of the road. (Don't worry mother, I wasn't driving crazy.) I'm thinking, "What the heck? You people are going to cause an accident and I'm running late. Move!" There appeared to be an adult and child in the vehicle, so I couldn't get too upset...could be from my school. Slowing down I finally noticed the reason they were stopped. There was a deer standing about 2 feet off the road just looking at them, munching away on some grass. My first thought...get out of the road, I'm late! Second, thought...that would make a great picture for my blog. And my third thought...relax!! Let them enjoy this wonderful scene. Wildlife was a daily event for me growing up on a farm in Eastern Colorado. This deer could have been the first one they had ever seen...and I was trying to hurry them up. (And don't get me wrong, I love to watch the deer along this road - they are usually there several times a week.) They ended up heading down the road and I was very tempted to stop, but I could hear my mother's voice telling me it wouldn't be safe. Anyway, to wrap up the story, I realized that I need to give others the time to enjoy the things around them, appreciate their surroundings, create their own memories - even if it means being another minute or two late for me.
