New Digs

Well, it was finally time to add a new blue bird house to the backyard. I have to thank my dad for putting his woodworking skills to good use for me. :)

Nest

We have a nest in progress! I have to admit that I was very concerned...I haven't seen very many blue birds in the neighborhood or around the school. I'm once again participating in the Colorado Blue Bird Project and I'll be anxious to see the results for this year. Looking forward to another nesting season!!

And HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!

Still Seven

Did my weekly check-in on the bluebird box...still seven eggs. The tree swallows don't have any eggs yet, but the nest was about twice the size as last week.

We have had to clean out a few finch nests from the gutter under the deck.

The Beginning

As previously mentioned, I will be taking part in the Colorado Bluebird Project. Not only will I be monitoring my own nest, but I will also be monitoring several next that are on a trail around the school.

Today I had to make a few modifications to my nest box since it does not open. I was actually a little surprised to find a completed nest in the box. (And I was hopeful that my tinkering didn't disturb the nesting couple.)

I think I will have to take down the box this winter and do some repairs - or a full replacement. After six years it's beginning to show its age.

Here to stay.

Well, I'm pretty sure the bluebird couple is here to stay. They have made it through two snows and have been around the box everyday this week. I'm still waiting to see any type of nesting material going in the box, but I'm just glad to see them still here!

Blue!

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, the blue birds have officially arrived. I snapped this shot this morning...not the best, but I had to make them the topic of today's blog.

I saw both the male and female around the nesting box both this morning and this evening. Last year I created the "Blue Bird Blog" but never posted to it.  I know that the birds will take over this blog, so I've decided to start using it to keep everyone updated on the birds.
